Happy New Year! A look back at 2017

Here’s MY personal Best Nine of 2017. 🎉 This year has been a crazy, unexpected whirlwind! Especially for me creatively. So I wanted to look back and choose 9 pics from my feed that I think made a mark on me as an artist. 🖌 It’s important to look back to see how we grow and change and take notes for the future. This year I expressed many sides of my personality, the fun side with my fuzzbutt bees, 🐝 the environmental side with the 3 eyed Ajna, 🌍 the ridiculous side with my zombees. 💀 I opened up in ways I hadn’t before, like sharing my fan fiction art through Patreon (Bethyl forever!), deciding to channel love over hate with my new @coreyhelfordgallery show “Sky”. I pushed myself technically with “La Madre” one of my biggest most intricate paintings to date, I painted a boy, “Dorian Grey” mixing rainbows and literature, 🌈📖 I spent a year completing my rainbow fox, and I brought my love of doll furniture together with my love of custom toys! I published my first ever online comic “Davinchibi” and launched my Etsy with the help of Asami! Tasha, my amazing coordinator knocked it out of the Park this year! She helped me build my Patreon and so much more. 🙌 I did things this year that I hadn’t done before, traveled more than ever and took creative risks. It hasn’t been an easy year, I think many can relate.😌 This year forced me to push myself to work harder and deal with tragedies. 2017 almost felt apocalyptic. Hate surfaced in ways I didn’t expect and it hurt my heart so gravely that I changed my entire direction for my solo show for Corey Helford next year. I decided to take a stand for my beliefs that ALL humans are equal.💖 I want my art to inspire and heal, to bring people together, to spread love. I hope that I’ve brought smiles to your faces and been there through the hard times. My new motto is “Love over Hate”.💞 I have some big plans for next year, I talk about them here on my new Huffington Post interview. You can read it here!  Now that the year is ending it’s time to look forward to what we can accomplish in 2018! 😊 Stay strong and let your freak flag fly my lovelies!! I can’t thank you enough for all your likes and comments and support. You make me so happy! 😁 I want to wish you the Happiest New Years ever! Let’s celebrate with love! Big hugs and all my best!

Preview Boxing Week Releases

It’s finally snowing here in Vancouver! It puts me in such a wintery mood, I love it! So I wanted to share a sneak peek at more of the fun goodies and new releases I have coming to Etsy on Dec 26th, 9am PST.

There’s going to be hand-painted designer toys like these little cuties. They’re Kathie Olivas Wandering Misfit toys I’ve hand-painted and made into little characters. Each piece tells a story! They’re a fun way to make an original artwork a part of your collection, but there’s only 1 of each, so check right at 9AM PST during release Dec26 here!

I’ve made fun seasonal sets of postcards and buttons! My postcard set is holiday and festive type images, including some inspired by some of my favorite holiday movies. It was my first time drawing Charlie Brown as a chibi, but I think he came out looking super cute!

These wintery button sets are so fun! They’re 1″ buttons and each set has 4 images. I made a limited amount of them though, so pick one up when they release on Etsy Dec 26 starting 9AM PST!

Buttons aren’t the only things I’ve been making this season! Something about the nippy weather gets me so energized to create! I’ve made brooches, necklaces and rings that are each one-of-a-kind and going to release on Etsy Dec 26 at 9AM PST. Since they’s only 1 of each, if you fall in love with a design, don’t sleep on it! My one-of jewellery usually find homes pretty fast so pick your favorites and add some wearable art to your collection!

Speaking of wearable art! Check out these magnificent looking hoddies and sweatshirts from my official collection with Liveheroes! They’re so soft inside, it’s unbelievable. You have to feel it! I’m going to have a variety of designs and sizes launch Dec 26 at 9AM PST

And beanies too! Look at those big floofy white poofs! These beanies are double-lined so they’re warm and soft, perfect for cold weather! There’s only a few of each though, so don’t miss out when they release Dec 26 at 9AM pst here!

I’ve got sale prices coming to both Etsy and my Custom Print Shop Dec 26-30 too! So if you’ve had your eye on a special print, or hard enamel pins like Sir Reginald, you can find them at special holiday prices.

Prints on Etsy will show on a sale price from Dec 26-30, and you can get 25% off all custom prints on my Custom Print Shop here with the code BOXING17 It’s my first time making custom prints on sale, so if you’ve always wanted to pick up some for your collection, Dec 26-30 is a great time!

That’s not all the fun I have in store for Dec 26! When you order from Dec26-30 I have some fun goodies and bonus thank yous for orders! Orders valued $10+ before shipping get an Oh Deery button I made especially for boxing week while supplies last. And if you order $75+ before shipping, you’ll also get a signed 5×7″ print of “Bad Madeline”!

I’ve also got other surprises for orders like Mr. Velvedeer postcards that will go in to orders at random, and new seasonal stickers to add to orders as a bonus Thank You for your support! It’s a lot to take in but set your alarms and keep your eyes peeled on The Camilla Store on Etsy here for release Dec 26, 12PM PST!

Studio Sneak Peek And Upcoming Events

I’m so excited to show you guys my studio! After months of renovations, it’s all been worth it. This is my sanctuary. My creative safe-haven!  I’m so in love with how everything came together, and how creatively energizing it is to have a dedicated place to channel all my creativity!

Let me give you the tour! This is my computer workstation where I have a Wacom Cintiq touchscreen. These babies are amazing for Photoshop. Highly recommended!

It’s really important to me as a creative and an artist to support my fellow artists and creative friends, so I have a library and collection of books, artworks, toys and other things to creatively energize me through the day! It’s so lovely to be able to have a cup of tea and look through an artbook, or listen to one of my audiobooks surrounded by beautiful things other artists made with love, while I create my own paintings!

Speaking of what I love- look at this little nugget! Loki loves the patio outside my studio, and has his own dishes and favorite sleeping chairs. Just like the little prince he is!

My studio is also where I keep lots of special goodies and one-of-a-kind samples, proofs, and treasures. I’m going to be opening my studio up for invitation-only events, tours and release parties! So if you’d like to sign up for an invitation to my events in my Vancouver BC studio, email info@camilladerrico.com !

New Customizable Prints Online

I’m back from Comicpalooza, and I’ve got big news! I’m changing things up with my ONLINE SHOPS! Now The Camilla Store on Bigcartel is my PRINT SHOP! Whohooo! I’ve set it up for you to be able to customize prints of my artwork, so that you can choose which image you want, the size you want, the paper you want, as well as if you would like it SIGNED or not. 😉

I know this is a wild turn for my prints but there are a few reasons why I’m doing this. For years, I’ve been traveling to conventions and offering con goers tons of variety of prints at different prices and papers, while making a super limited amount available online. I realize now that this isn’t fair to all those who can’t come to the shows, so I want to change that! I want to share my art library with everyone, not just those at conventions. 😉

I really respect your support for my artwork, so I want to honor that by being really honest with you about the other reason why I’m doing this.

Things are really different now than they used to be. It’s a lot more expensive nowadays to make and store a lots of prints, and that’s just the honest truth. I spend a lot of money to make the prints for everyone, especially when I get lots of comments that say “I want that as a print! Please make it!” So I do…but then not everyone who says they want, it buys it…. 🙁 It’s tough for an artist to see their supporters beg for prints on Social Media, then spend time and money making them, and lots of people who said they’d pick one up- don’t. Did you know the government taxes stock kept in inventory? That’s not fun, but it’s a reality of being an artist that you might not hear about. And, I totally understand, things come up and it’s not always possible to collect a new print.

SOooooooooo! I figure this new version of my Print Shop will be a better and more economical shop for you lovelies and for me too! You’ll get a LOT more of my images available and I don’t have to guess which images you want. YOU GET TO CHOOSE! Yay!

So I’m trying something new to give you guys more options for your budget and wall-space, by doing customizable prints! This way, you can pick your size and paper type on my Bigcartel here, and get your print made your way! This lets me offer a bigger library of print images, and I’ll be able to update it with new artwork too. I really hope you like it!

I’m excited and I hope you are too!

You guys have been so amazing in your support and enthusiasm for my Etsy shop, and deserve a big THANK YOU with all the rainbow squishes I have! My Etsy coordinator Asami has been having a blast getting to message with you and see your reviews, and work on making sure each order is packaged with love. That’s something I’ve wanted my Etsy to be about; hand-made, limited and special kinds of goodies that make their way from me to you. You are all ONE OF A KIND supporters and deserve all the love for allowing me to do what I love to do, which is bring art to the world!

I honestly love you all. You have no idea! I am SO LUCKY to have such wonderful people like you who cheer me on and support me. I hope you all have the most amazing day and if you want to email me and ask about this new shop please do! Email my main lady, Tasha aka my coordinator at info@camilladerrico.com. She’ll explain what the deal is, and Asami will also be available to chat through Etsy!

Because, fret not, my collectors! I’m still going to do Limited Edition and Exclusively Rare prints. But this new Print Shop is for all my open edition prints that are part of my convention and art library that I’ve released in person, just not online. So for all my rare and limited, one of a kind, items including closed edition prints you can still find them on my Etsy Here!

Big Squishes!!
