Camilla’s No Ordinary Love Statue, a collaborative effort with Gentle Giant Studios and produced by Dark Horse Comics has been nominated for the Designer Toy Awards Outstanding Production piece of 2012!

The Designer Toy Awards, run through Clutter Magazine, recognize the best and brightest artists and contributions to the designer toy and art toy world. Held during the weekend of New York Comic Con in NYC, the DTA are a fabulously well attended and lively event bringing together artists and industry professinals from all over the world. It is an honour for Camilla’s first art statue adaptation from one of her paintings, No Ordinary Love, to be recognized at this level.

Last years’ winner for the designer toy awards Outstanding Production category was Tara McPherson’s art statue Lilitu. A marvellously crafted sculptural art piece in an edition of 200 pieces.

This year we will be asking for your support in helping vote for Camilla’s No Ordinary Love Statue, and show how your Love of Camilla’s artwork is anything but Ordinary! When voting opens in the summer time we will announce it here and on our newsletter here. Or visit the Designer Toy Awards site directly here.

Camilla’s recent nomination is joined by our d’Errico Studios MegaLlama helper Tasha Zimich, who has been nominated in the Designer Toy Awards for Breakthrough Artist! We remember Tasha cut her teeth on painting designer vinyl with painting some of Camilla’s DIY Vinyl Kuro Toys. Tasha has kept painting toys, and has since participated in exhibitions and artist series regularly. Here’s a quick look at how far Tasha has come along from 2011 to now. Keep it up Tasha!

Dark Horse Announces Camilla d’Errico ‘No Ordinary Love’ Limited-Edition Bust

One of the brightest stars of pop-surrealism, Camilla d’Errico is known as an artist, designer and graphic storyteller. Now, she is set to debut perhaps her most collectible item yet, as Dark Horse is very proud to bring forward her first deluxe sculptural piece, an intensely-detailed bust based upon her painting “No Ordinary Love”.

“’No Ordinary Love’ is a piece that is very dear to me,” Camilla d’Errico reflected, “ its the visual interpretation and expression of my feelings for my ‘one and only’, so you can imagine how exciting this is that this particular piece was chosen!”

Slated for a late June release, the meticulously-painted sculpture measures approximately 8” tall and 5” in width, making it a diminutive but exquisite jewel of a statuette, packaged in full-color collector box with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The beautiful sculpture is set to make its public debut at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City for Toy Fair 2012. Upon release, this piece will be strictly limited to only 950 numbered copies for worldwide distribution, and is sure to sell out.

“Translating Camilla’s work into three-dimensions was a challenge,” Dark Horse’s David Scroggy observed, “but with a lot of help from Camilla and the skilled artisans at Gentle Giant Studios, we were able to arrive at a piece that is unmistakably d’Errico, with all the subtle nuance and details of sculpture and paint application that her audience would expect.”

Camilla d’Errico supervised every aspect of the sculpting and paint application as the piece took shape, providing additional reference, commentary and color notes throughout the prototyping process.

The painting “No Ordinary Love” was included in the Dark Horse published art book of d’Errico’s work, Femina and Fauna, which has gone into multiple printings, being found in a diverse array of retail venues around the world.

Be sure to keep up-to-date with all of Camilla’s projects by following her on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

If you’ve ever attended a show with Camilla, you probably seen her working on sketches like the ones below:

Emerald City Comic Con

WonderCon

Calgary Comic Expo

Because the demand for sketches has been so high, we are opening up pre-orders for only 15 sketches this year at San Diego Comic-Con. Sketches must be pre-paid and picked up at booth 4723 during the convention. All sketches come on 9 x 12 art paper. Single character sketches start at $100, and multi-character sketches start at $150. Please email cderricostore [at] gmail [dot] com to arrange a one-of-a-kind piece of original art. Similarly, if you would like to arrange to pick up one of only a few of 100-limited-edition Black Rabbit Kaleidoscope fine art prints, please email to schedule receiving the certificate of authenticity as well.

Those are the big announcements for those looking to pick up something special at San Diego Comic-Con, but there is much more going on as well. Camilla’s “Wireseat” is the cover to the 2011 SDCC Color Ink Book, and an alternative cover to the Grant Morrison documentary ‘Talking with Gods’ by Camilla will also be available! Just click the links for more information.

In addition to being nominated for an Eisner Award, it’s a privilege for Camilla to be a part of TFAW’s CBLDF Auction and has created two pieces – Catwoman & Phoenix, look for more details about how you can bid on the unreleased original art in the coming days. For participating in the auction, TFAW has been kind enough to pledge 500 limited-edition cards that feature Camilla’s piece that can be picked up at booth 4723! Want to know what the original looks like? Here’s a hint – the image is very well known in the comic community. >_^

Since we’re letting some secrets slips, here’s a couple more – fans of Tanpopo are going to get a huge gift in about one month from now, and fans of Sky Pirates of Neo Terra will have a new, online game to play soon. Okay! That’s all the secrets for now!

Thanks so much to the fans that came out to the Calgary Comic Expo last weekend, you guys basically cleaned out the booth! First, congratulations to all the Shuster Award winners; there were several amazing creators who won this year, including Emily Carroll, Fiona Staples, and the team behind “La Fille Invisible” (The Invisible Girl). This clever gentlemen was actually talking to the booth next to ours about airplanes and art, but it’s neat to be seen in the photo that thousands of people enjoyed. Thanks to those Redditors who noted the art in the background and gave credit!

Things were so busy we didn’t get a chance to take a lot of photos, but here are a few, just click on any of them to see a bigger size:

Just a couple more bits of news. First, thanks again for participating in the email and Facebook contests we’ve been running; prizes and winners are still being contacted. So, sorry for the delays! There’s been a postal strike in Canada. But, don’t worry, the prizes are on the way!

Second, the last of the $20 prints are still available online, but will be gone very soon. And finally, we’re excited to announce that the first printing of “Femina & Fauna: The Art of Camilla d’Errico” is sold out! Dark Horse still has a preview of the book online, and it looks as though Amazon has less than 20 copies left. Yikes!

Well, that’s all the news for now. Thanks again for being so supportive at CCEE, and on Reddit, and everywhere else. There are lots of fun things planned for July as we get closer to San Diego Comic-Con, so look for more announcements soon!
