Grazie Rome and Dorothy Circus Gallery!

I’m back home in Canada now after an amazing trip and opening reception at Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome! Italy, you slay me with your sheer unrivaled beauty, and all your amain pizza and gelato.

This trip was such an amazing experience that brought me back to my Italian roots. I spent a lot of time with my family getting back in touch with my Italian side. I adore the culture and the language so I cant’ tell you how fun it was to speak it 24/7 during my trip! It’s always great to stay in touch with your culture.

I explored a lot of the cities art. Spent hours studying various masterpieces until my eyes started swirling. Its going to be really fun to incorporate what I saw and was inspired by into my art now.

A big and humungous thank you to the ladies of Dorothy Circus. They were so lovely and wonderful. The show is spectacular and the opening was unbelievable. Thank you to the fans and supporters who came by. I was pretty excited to meet Paolo and see Alessia Lannetti at the opening. I was surrounded by lovely people and amazingly talented artists.
I have so much to share and learn and give thanks to this trip!
I hope that my artwork can bring as much joy to Rome as Rome brought to me. If anyone would like to contact the gallery to enquire about making one of my paintings all their own to love and cherish please contact sales@dorothycircusgallery.com.
Big hugs Roma I will miss you!

Weekend Art Shows – 3X3

This weekend is an art weekend!  Three shows are going down all over the map!

lyric_revised

I’m super enthused to be part of Glenn Barr’s show, Lyric. All the pieces are inspired by music and mine is called Broken, inspired by Gorillaz and their newest album Plastic Beach.

The next show is a last-minute but very important fundraiser put on the Sweet Streets, called #PrayforJapan and it takes place at JapanLA. I’m donating a Canadian Tiger and a Zebramilk Artist Proof from the limited edition series.

And lastly, the guys at Mondo POP in Rome have two of my paintings, Deer God’s Coma and Product of Nowhere in their latest show called Pop Surrealism Big Bang.

Saturday Helmetgirls Randomness and Reminders

Hey everyone!  I thought I should remind you that there’s only 1 day left to order the Croc-o-Hug t-shirt and print box set on LTD Tee! Make sure you grab yours before the weekend is over!

The shirt got a ton of blog love, and I’m so excited that people were commenting on the style and how much they loved it!  It’s in theme with all the Helmetgirls activity going on this month.

.

My solo show, “Il Codice d’Errico” is up at Mondo Bizzarro Gallery in Rome until June 30th.  Time has certainly flown by!  If you missed it, here’s a little video of the opening night, where you can see me, and my paintings!

And to commemorate the Helmetgirls’ solo show, a CATALOG/ART BOOK of the show, with bios, some wonderful written introductions and an interview, was published!  The books will be distributed by the gallery, mostly in Europe.  I will have 25 of these to sell, signed by me, for $50.00 at the end of July.  I’m taking pre-orders for the catalogs now, so if you’d like one, please write to: cderricostore@gmail.com.

And lastly we had a 2-for-1 sale of Helmetgirls, black-and-white, prints on the online store! That’s two prints, Lollipop Pia and Stars, for $25.00.  The offer ends June 30th, then we kick off July with another specially priced print.

With all this Helmetgirls’ goodness, I’m stoked to get started on the graphic novel. Yes indeed! Look out for Issue #0 before 2010 is out. But there’s so much more exciting goodness to go along with that news, and I’ll share that very soon.  For now, I’d like to thank everyone who helped make the Helmetgirls’ Codice show a success, and for supporting me in everything I do, every day. You’ve given me even more inspiration to push on, and tread this path.

Thank You For a Beautiful Vernissage

I’m home again, after some travel hassles with the BA strike and shifting flights! It feels good to be here, but strange at the same time because I was gone for so long and had kinda gotten used to being in Europe.  I’ll be posting pics from the touring soon, but for now I wanted to share images from the opening night of “Il Codice d’Errico”.

These are a few of the photos, you can see them ALL on Flickr.  Thank you to everyone who supported and cheered me on throughout this adventure. This show means so much to me. Each painting is special and tells a story that is part of me.  It was so great to share this with AdaPia, Mario, Carlo, Zo, Inna, Elena, Federico, Rosita, Hoffy, Davide, and my family in Rome and also with Tristan, Trisha, Nancy, my Mom, Bianca and everyone who wasn’t actually in Rome, but who were with me the whole time from afar. Thanks to Christiano, Dario and Luisa from Mondo Bizzarro and congrats Karine on your work!

The paintings will be up in the gallery until June 30th, so if you happen to be in Rome, go check them out!!

Solo Show Announcement: “Il Codice d’Errico”

Codice d'Errico..

Codice d'Errico Title

It has been a long time, almost two years since my first solo show, and I am very happy to share my latest body of work in my first European solo show titled, “Il Codice d’Errico” at Mondo Bizzarro Gallery, Rome, opening June 5th.

..

These 12 paintings are unlike anything I’ve ever created before. The show is an expression of two passions: my Italian heritage and my Helmetgirls.  I studied the greatest master of Italian art, Leonardo Da Vinci, and while his machines inspire many paintings, in others I was able to create inventions of my own, thanks to what I learned from him.

..

However the show is not just about fancy cogs and flying machines, it’s an expression of my own interests, love, fantasy, emotions and decisions. Many of these paintings are based on personal triumphs and setbacks. Though subtle, I wanted to use visual themes to reveal secrets and hold up mirrors to others and myself.

..

I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and present myself in black and white, shedding the richness of a color palette and replacing it with a stark and naked face of line work and detail.

..

Every girl, every Helmet, and every element has meaning on its own, and within the context of the painting itself. Like Da Vinci, I’m proud to present my own “code”, my Codice d’Errico. And I couldn’t be happier that it is all being unveiled in Italy!

For previews, pricing and purchase of the paintings, please contact: Mondo Bizzarro, Luisa Montalto, +39-06-44247451, info@mondobizzarrogallery.com.  For any press, interview or other questions, please contact me at cderricoinfo@gmail.com

..

I also invite you to come to Rome for the opening, on June 5th. I will be there, and I hope many people can come see these paintings in person, meet me and share this momentous occasion.

Thank You,

Camilla

Rome’s Helmetgirls

Here are a couple of snapshots from the paintings for the solo show in Rome. I’ve decided on a name, but I’m holding out on officially releasing it until the gallery, Mondo Bizzarro, has announced the show.  I know, I tease, but it’ll be worth it!

For now, here are some snapshots I’ve taken of a few of the paintings.  Not good shots, just with my iPhone, but I wanted to share!

2010 HERE WE COME!

Hi! Did everyone have a great Christmas?!  And did you celebrate the New Year with friends galore?!  Taking a short break to enjoy friends and family was just what I needed!

Let me tell you what the general plan is for 2010, because it is already jam-packed with comics, paintings, toys, conventions, and goodies.  We’ve changed the EVENTS CALENDAR on the website. You can now find it under the BLOG on the left as its own category.  Bookmark this site so you always know what’s coming up!  All the event info, and more is on the Fanpage too.

PAINTINGS – This year I’ve got a solo show in Rome, which opens June 5th.  The gallery is called Mondo Bizzarro and I’m going to be at the opening.  I’ll be painting an entire collection of Helmetgirls.  Between now and then there are a few other shows going on: the first is the HE MAN show at Gallery 1988 LA. This one opens on January 8th. I wish I could be there!  I’ve posted the work in progress shots here.  I’ve also got a few pieces for a special show at the Ayden Gallery in Vancouver, that opens February 13th, right as the Olympics take over the city.  The show is an all-Canadian, all-BC group with me, Peter Taylor, Ben Tour and Lani Imre.  I’m going to explore nature and culture a little more in depth with these paintings.

HeMan

COMICS – Sky Pirates finishes with issue 5 in January. The series has been grueling to draw, but also fun. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, and you can tell by the detail in the images. 2010 will be the year of Tanpopo 3 & 4, as well as some cover art coming for Elephantmen, Cloudscape, and of course, Little Red Riding Hood for Fractured Fables (Silverline).  I’m also working on a top secret graphic novel project that I hope to soon tell the world about!

CONVENTIONS: This year you’ll see me, Nancy and my merchandise all over the countries (Canada/US)! We’re hitting 15 conventions, including San Diego Comic Con with a booth in the dealer’s room! Oh yes, moving UP.  We’ve got a ton of great stuff coming, including the new line of clothing, a new postcard set from Last Gasp, new art cards and new prints, as well as something truly special – Jewelry! Stay tuned for more!

I’m looking forward to 2010, and all that it will bring. I especially look forward to meeting everyone that’s out there, and who supports me in everything I do.

All the best to you for 2010. It’s gonna be epic ^_^
