Hello lovelies! I was quoted in an article recently that I wanted to share with you all. Especially since you’ll be spending a lot of time in your home – why not get in the home decor mood?!
Check out the article by Ryan Smith on Redfin. There are a lot of great tips from other amazing artists! Here’s what I have to say on the subject (but elaborated on):
The kind of art in your home says a lot about your personality; playful, thoughtful, classic etc. There are so many ways that imagery can disclose without words your inner mind.
Don’t be afraid to put up art that you love! Your home is your sanctuary so fill it with things that make you happy.
Combining a variety of art shows a very well-balanced home, but make sure to keep a cohesive look. For example, having a variety of art but having similar frame styles helps to declutter the space while still adding a lot to the room.
Blend your space with objects that play off of each other. It’s also very important to know where you want to draw the eye, have a focal point in the room and then add to the space with art and décor that compliments it.
Check out some photos of my former studio for ideas!
Just in time for those Aries birthdays – a new scarf! April 4th I’m launching my beautiful new Aries scarf on TheCamillaStore for only 72 hours! April 4th at 9AM PST until April 7th at 9AM PST. After that they will never be made again.
Because of the craziness of the world right now – we may not be able to go out of our homes but we should still celebrate and enjoy life. And look good doing it!
This beautiful scarf is hand made by a wonderful company here in British Columbia, Canada. And in case you’re worried – they are taking all necessary precautions for the health and safety of their workers and customers. Everything is safe and sanitary!
The scarves feather screen printing of my original painting “Aries” from my Haven Gallery solo show “The Zodiac” – May, 2019.
Each scarf is approximately 45″ x 65″ in size. And made of a beautiful Poly Georgette Chiffon fabric that is machine washable! Yay!! The colour doesn’t fade. So it stays beautiful and vibrant.
Each scarf order will come with a bonus gift – because I love you all so much. So make sure to mark your calendars for April 4th at 9AM PST so you can get your order in early at TheCamillaStore!
Only those people who order a scarf between the 4th and 9AM PST on the 7th will get one of these babies. And they will never be made again. So don’t miss out!
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! And hopefully SANE! I’m going a bit store crazy… And I know it always helps me to shake up my creativity. So I thought it’d be fun to share one of the lessons from my Pop Manga Drawing book – FREE! Right here! So get scrolling and start drawing!
If you have the book already – start following along on page 62! If you enjoy drawing and like the lesson below, you can get you own copy of the book here on my Etsy Store.
STEP 1: For this piece, you’re going to draw a full circle (even though half of the face will be covered up by hair) using a hard lead like an HB or by gently drawing so that you don’t press too hard. It’s important to have the proper shape and structure of all objects no matter if you see them or not!
STEP 2: Use light lines to add details to your character. Don’t press too hard, okay? The trick here is to establish the hair first and then fit in the sun buddies after. So, don’t be afraid to draw over your initial circle shapes.
STEP 3: Refine the elements of your drawing either by switching to a softer 3B lead or by adding a little bit more pressure to your current pencil. You want to focus on the ebb and flow of the hair. Using confident strokes, try to maintain a continuous line, breaking only when you get to a juncture. I start at the bangs and then move down to the rest of the hair.
STEP 4: Erase your underwriting with a soft eraser. It’s okay to erase some of the outlines you’ve established. Bows your Cuba ce yo correct and redraw parts!
STEP 5: Work on one object at a time. I chose to focus on the girls eyes as well as her bear ears. Use quick little strokes to simulate the fur. Shade in her eyes moving from top to middle. Drawing the eyes and ears will require several layers of shading and texture.
STEP 6: Refine the suns. I chose to draw the suns before the hair because the suns overlap the hair. As a result, it’s best to establish them first. Use a softer 4B lead to achieve darker lines and gently go over your outline. Thicken the lines that connect at the main subject to provide more definition. Give each sun a little face to add some personality.
STEP 7: Now, jump into the hair! For this stage of the drawing, turn your paper around as you draw to get nice, fluid lines. Start with light, subtle lines to get a feeling for the hair. Then, as you get confident, firm up you pressure and draw in more stands of hair. For stylistic purposes, I like to add more hair at the edges and leave less of it in the middle.
STEP 8: Using a softer 4B lead, finish up the eyes, the ears, and the hair. Remember; it’s totally okay to draw over the lines placed earlier. Doing so just adds more texture and depth. For the eyes, make sure to darken the tips of the irises so that she doesn’t have a startled look. Slowly build up shadows. Start with light pressure, and then turn your paper and draw over that area again with former pressure. Repeat this process several times until you get a nice shadow layer.
FINISHING UP: Go over your drawing and add in darker edges and lines. Clean up any leftover underdrawing and add little wisps of hair here and there.
I hope you had fun! Make sure you share you work when you’re done on any social platform. Be sure to tag me so that I can see your masterpieces!
I know the world is a bit crazy right now. It seems like everything has spiralled out of control in less than 2 weeks. Our lives have come unravelled. And if you’re anything like me, you’re probably going a bit stir crazy. Maybe getting a little bit of cabin fever?
I normally spend most of my days inside painting. But I will purposely break up my days with walks and errands so that I don’t go bats-in-the-belfry. But that’s no longer an option. At least until this crisis is over.
So! To help with the boredom and cabin crazies – I wanted to share some of colouring book pages with you all. FREE. That’s right my lovelies. F-R-E-E. Just save the pages below right off this page and print them off and colour them in to help your zen.
