NYCC Happenings

Back from New York City Comic Con and have to say it was an intense 3 days of convention, events, meetings and more!

I was in artist alley, at table C11 and this year for the first time I sold original sketches, plus I took commission requests:

I got away from my booth a couple of times during the weekend.  Once was for my PANEL about merchandising and art entrepreneurship, held with David Scroggy from Dark Horse, and the other was on Sunday for the Sky Pirates of Neo Terra signing at Image Comics.

Saturday night I was at the MTV Geeks live painting, and you can see all the pics here.   This was tons of fun and I painted with Molly Crabapple, Ben Templesmith, Jim Mahfood and Dave Mack, amongst others.  Special thanks to MTV Geeks and Jah Furry!  A couple pics here on the blog:

Later that night I was at the Grant Morrison film screening and I have to say that it is truly a piece of great film making.  I know it’s been a while that the news about my collab with Grant has been in the news, and that is still happening but for anyone who doesn’t know this amazing man, you MUST watch this movie!

I also had a wonderful time meeting PISMO, the Brooklyn hip hop artist who’s new video just released. Pismo and I are brainstorming some fun ideas for mixing his musical skills and lyrics with some of my art. More on that soon.  In the meantime, check him out:

That was a part of my NYC adventures, and now that I’m back home I’m back at it with painting and a new comic/graphic novel project!  I’m also plotting my Halloween Kuro Pumpkin Carving.  More on that later!

New York City Comic Con

New York City Comic Con is coming up and for the first time I’ll be exhibiting, oh yes!

You’ll find me in Artist Alley, table C11 from Friday at 1 pm to Sunday at 5 pm.  I’ll be there with a ton of art, books, prints, comics and sketches. Lots of sketches!!

On Friday, October 8th, I’ll be hosting a panel with good friend and industry long-timer, David Scroggy of Dark Horse. The panel is going to be all about how to get your art on merchandise, how to work with manufacturers and hear straight from the horse’s mouth what a manufacturer like Dark Horse is looking for when working with artists.

Art to Merchandise – How to Make More With Your Art

I’ll also be unveiling a brand new, reeeeeeeally cool and exciting product — my very first vinyl toy ^_^ … what am I hatching?!
