Hi! Hope you all had a cool weekend! I’m now officially “over” the weekend after the big release party. It was such a great party … so I’ve heard! I was head down, customizing tshirts and signing for 5 hours!! Every time I looked up all I could see were people around me and I could hear pumping music. I’ve heard back from a few of you already and everyone seemed very happy. Some of you even drove up from the US!! I’m so floored and thankful for being supported by so many wonderful people. We estimate over 500 people came to the event 0.0 !!! 😀
I’m still waiting on the pics from the photographers, but here are a few from friends and fans, including a video of me customizing a tshirt. Enjoy and I’ll post more pics soon (also to the Flickr account).
Hi everyone, thanks for putting up with my spamming about the party >_^
Before I go do the final preparations at the gallery – touch ups to the canvases, the wall murals and set-up of all the merchandise, I can’t forget to remind you that if you sign into Foursquare when you’re at the party, and leave a nice lil’ message, the gallery will give you a free gift ^_^ So just show that you’ve signed in with Foursquare and pick up your goodies!
I’m extremely excited about this year’s party because for one thing – there’s no snowstorm!!! And of course because this year I’ve got new art, lots of it – paintings and prints and cards and then so much cool merchandise and Tanpopo #3. But not only Tanpopo 3 — also Kuro, many many Kuros — Poodles, and Buddhas and the vinyl prototype!!
It makes me very happy to organize and put on these parties because I love meeting you, and sharing my art with you. I get to do it this through the blog and social media and I love that I can connect with so many people, and I love it even more when I can connect in person.
So thank you – whether you are coming the party or not – for being such a huge part of my life, for giving me the motivation to keep creating art, and a great reason to throw a party!
All My Best,
SAVE THE DATE!
FRIDAY DECEMBER 10TH
7 – 11 PM
@ AYDEN GALLERY, VANCOUVER
IT’S ALMOST TIME FOR MY ANNUAL WINTER RELEASE PARTY
I’m very excited to tell you all about my winter release party, this year at the Ayden Gallery in Vancouver. This has become an annual must-do party and this year I’ve got a bunch of awesome goodies, including a brand new fine art print – of Zebramilk!
The Zebramilk print will be 11 x 22, limited edition of 50, fine art paper, archival inks, signed and numbered (with certificate of authenticity) and priced at only $75.00.
Other merchandise will include home decor pillows, handmade jewelry, new tees and something really fun, which will be blank tees that I’ll customize for the first 20 people who buy them! I’ll be updating the blog more soon with images of the merchandise, and more details. I hope to see you all there!
The new group show, titled ‘5’, featuring Camilla d’Errico, Ben Tour, Lani Imre, Peter Taylor and The Dark opens On Saturday, February 13th, at Vancouver’s Ayden Gallery.
All 5 artists will exhibit new works, and I’m pleased to share with you images of my key piece, Canadian Tiger. The painting is 18×24 and the theme is Canadian Nature. Every animal in the painting is native to Canada and the colors, like the Canadian flag, are red and white. My intention behind the painting was to express my fondness, love and pride of Canada, as my hometown of Vancouver gets ready to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Many of you have been following my work in progress shots, and it is my pleasure to share the final images:
For information about the paintings or the show, please contact Ken Lum: firstname.lastname@example.org
Opening reception runs from 7 pm to 10 pm, with after party at The Melk.
The show runs until March 14th.
I am happy to announce that the little glass charms of Kuro are here and ready to order! This collaboration with local British Columbian artisan Neacol Miller has been so much fun … seeing these little guys come to life has brought me squeals of enjoyment and I know it’ll be the same for anyone who gets their own!
Kuro charms are limited edition of 250. Each Kuro comes in his own black jewelry box, 18″ silver plated chain, cell phone charm strap and a signed certificate of authenticity printed on full color, heavy gloss stock paper. Every single Kuro made is slightly unique, since they are individually hand crafted and may look different from the photos. You can order your own from my online store right now.
Kuro charms will make their official retail debut at The Ayden Gallery on Saturday February 13th, during the gallery show, 5, which I am a part of! I will also be at the show, since Ken knows how to put on a good party at The Ayden and we’re all revved up by Olympics fever.
Glass charm Kuro is possible thanks to Neacol and her husband Stanley, Miller. They own Bling Squared Wearable Glass Sculptures and work out of Salt Spring Island. This is their website and they make some of the most adorable little glass charms you’ll ever see! You can see and buy more of their creations here. They are a husband and wife team and their inspiration comes from obsessions with Japanese animation, comic books, fashion, pop culture and their daughter. Kind of like me, except without the daughter ~_n!
Hi! Did everyone have a great Christmas?! And did you celebrate the New Year with friends galore?! Taking a short break to enjoy friends and family was just what I needed!
Let me tell you what the general plan is for 2010, because it is already jam-packed with comics, paintings, toys, conventions, and goodies. We’ve changed the EVENTS CALENDAR on the website. You can now find it under the BLOG on the left as its own category. Bookmark this site so you always know what’s coming up! All the event info, and more is on the Fanpage too.
PAINTINGS – This year I’ve got a solo show in Rome, which opens June 5th. The gallery is called Mondo Bizzarro and I’m going to be at the opening. I’ll be painting an entire collection of Helmetgirls. Between now and then there are a few other shows going on: the first is the HE MAN show at Gallery 1988 LA. This one opens on January 8th. I wish I could be there! I’ve posted the work in progress shots here. I’ve also got a few pieces for a special show at the Ayden Gallery in Vancouver, that opens February 13th, right as the Olympics take over the city. The show is an all-Canadian, all-BC group with me, Peter Taylor, Ben Tour and Lani Imre. I’m going to explore nature and culture a little more in depth with these paintings.
COMICS – Sky Pirates finishes with issue 5 in January. The series has been grueling to draw, but also fun. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, and you can tell by the detail in the images. 2010 will be the year of Tanpopo 3 & 4, as well as some cover art coming for Elephantmen, Cloudscape, and of course, Little Red Riding Hood for Fractured Fables (Silverline). I’m also working on a top secret graphic novel project that I hope to soon tell the world about!
CONVENTIONS: This year you’ll see me, Nancy and my merchandise all over the countries (Canada/US)! We’re hitting 15 conventions, including San Diego Comic Con with a booth in the dealer’s room! Oh yes, moving UP. We’ve got a ton of great stuff coming, including the new line of clothing, a new postcard set from Last Gasp, new art cards and new prints, as well as something truly special – Jewelry! Stay tuned for more!
I’m looking forward to 2010, and all that it will bring. I especially look forward to meeting everyone that’s out there, and who supports me in everything I do.
All the best to you for 2010. It’s gonna be epic ^_^
