New York Comic Con Announcements

October is upon us, which means it’s time for New York Comic Con, one of the biggest comic and anime conventions in the world! There’s so much to announce this year, so let’s get to it!

First, we hope you’ll come say hello in the Small Press Section (seen in the image above with the red-dotted line around the space on the right of the map) – we’re at Booth 2752 – right on the corner so it’s easy to find.

Next up, you’ve probably already seen the news, but in case you haven’t, it’s so exciting to announce that the Image Comics graphic novel Sky Pirates of Neo Terra is going to become a video game on the iPhone and on Facebook thanks to Day 21 Studios!

And in other video game news, Camilla was chosen as one of only a few select artists to contribute to the Tomb Raider 15th Anniversary Celebration with a piece titled “The Depth” that you can see below!

It’s also a pleasure to see that the Tanpopo Hardcover Edition Kickstarter backed by BOOM! Studios is nearly 70% funded! We recently teased out a chapter break image that will be in the new book, which you can see here.

Don’t forget, we’re still running the Granimator Contest for the iPad until the end of the month, where users get a chance to play with Camilla’s original designs to create their own unique wallpaper image!

And last, but certainly not least, there will be a special update on the Helmetgirls: Origins graphic novel at NYCC – so keep your eyes and ears peeled to the Facebook and Twitter channels, as well as this blog to see the news when it breaks out into the public!

As always, thank you for your support and kind words this year. It’s been a whirlwind of activity and announcements, and seeing all of the news come together in once place like this is super! If you’re attending NYCC, please RSVP with us on Facebook, and we hope to see your wonderful, smiling faces at the show!

‘Helmetgirls: Origins’ – New Graphic Novel Coming in 2012

You may remember that Camilla teased that Helmetgirls: Origins was being developed in an MTV video at Emerald City Comic-Con earlier this year. Well, it’s now official – Helmetgirls: Origins is scheduled for a release in 2012!

Fellow Eisner-award nominee Joshua Dysart (B.P.R.D., Unknown Soldier) will write the new original graphic novel, and Camilla d’Errico will provide art for the 140-page book inspired by her Helmetgirls portraits. As a sneak peak, here are some behind-the-scenes sketches of the characters!

[Click either sketch page for a larger view.]

We’ve recently launched a new Helmetgirls website that features information about the characters and features an interactive fan wall, and finished a very successful event at the University of British Columbia where several Helmetgirl cosplayers turned out.

Full details of the Helmetgirls: Origins graphic novel will be revealed at this year’s New York Comic Con, where more announcements for the Tanpopo series, which recently began running on MTV Geek, will also be made public. To see more images of Helmetgirls, please visit the Facebook gallery.

A special art print of the Helmetgirls: Origins teaser poster called “Caverns”, seen above, is now available for purchase in the online store, and is a part of the limited time 2 for $30 print sale going on now until August 31st.

NYCC Happenings

Back from New York City Comic Con and have to say it was an intense 3 days of convention, events, meetings and more!

..

I was in artist alley, at table C11 and this year for the first time I sold original sketches, plus I took commission requests:

I got away from my booth a couple of times during the weekend.  Once was for my PANEL about merchandising and art entrepreneurship, held with David Scroggy from Dark Horse, and the other was on Sunday for the Sky Pirates of Neo Terra signing at Image Comics.

.

Saturday night I was at the MTV Geeks live painting, and you can see all the pics here.   This was tons of fun and I painted with Molly Crabapple, Ben Templesmith, Jim Mahfood and Dave Mack, amongst others.  Special thanks to MTV Geeks and Jah Furry!  A couple pics here on the blog:

Later that night I was at the Grant Morrison film screening and I have to say that it is truly a piece of great film making.  I know it’s been a while that the news about my collab with Grant has been in the news, and that is still happening but for anyone who doesn’t know this amazing man, you MUST watch this movie!

.

I also had a wonderful time meeting PISMO, the Brooklyn hip hop artist who’s new video just released. Pismo and I are brainstorming some fun ideas for mixing his musical skills and lyrics with some of my art. More on that soon.  In the meantime, check him out:

That was a part of my NYC adventures, and now that I’m back home I’m back at it with painting and a new comic/graphic novel project!  I’m also plotting my Halloween Kuro Pumpkin Carving.  More on that later!
