Fantastic Women!  Saturday May 10th, 2pm — 3pm [room 2505 A&B]
Illustration & fantasy art used to be a male-dominated industry: has that changed or are their still challenges woman artists face? Winona Nelson [M], Rebecca Yanovskaya, Annie Stegg, Zoë Robinson, Kristina Carroll, Camilla d’Errico discusse the good, the bad, and the ugly of working in today’s marketplace.

Guest Interview: Camilla d’Errico Sunday May 11th, 10am — 10:50am [room 2505 A&B]
Multi-faceted artist Camilla d’Errico moves between comics, illustration, gallery exhibitions, and back again seamlessly and effortlessly, pausing just long enough to create decorative work for stationary, clothing, designer toys, handbags and everything in between. She worked with singer Avril Lavigne on the graphic novel for Random House, Make 5 Wishes, produced a mini-series for Image, and self-published her own comic, Tanpopo, which was inspired by Goethe’s Faust. Dark Horse has produced two collections of her art, Femina and Fauna and Helmetgirls while Watson-Guptill has published her instructional book Pop Manga: How to Draw the Coolest, Cutest Characters, Animals, Mascots, and More.

Speaking of  Bobby Chiu, remember the Tanpopo Drawing Camilla donated to the “Artists Help Japan” fundraiser in Toronto organized by Imaginism Studios?  It sold for over $400, and the event itself raised $20,000.  A tip of the hat to the entire organization and all the artists. To see the art, a video of the event and  more details, check out their  blog.  This is the image of the auctioned art piece:  Tanpopo Tricks!
